Turloughmore Ceilí Band win the Ceilí Band competition at the World Fleadh, held in Ballybunion, County Kerry.
On 20th August 2006, Turloughmore Ceilí Band were awarded the title of World Fleadh Ceilí Band Champions, winning the Paddy McElligott Ceilí Band Memorial Cup and €2,000 in prize money.
About The World Fleadh The World Fleadh is a new seven day international festival which premiered in August 2006 and was staged in a custom built Fleadh Village at Ballybunion, Co Kerry, Ireland. The World Fleadh comprises theatre, marquee and outdoor concerts given by the most celebrated Irish traditional & contemporary performers in the world in addition to exclusive Irish performances given by a selection of the world’s greatest celtic/world music performers. The ethos of the Festival is to showcase not only the best of Irish Music in its purist setting but also to give a platform to the best known innovators and contemporary style performers within the Irish music, song and dance traditions. Master classes & demonstrations in music, song and dance are provided by the top names in the Irish music business while there are world title music, song and dance competitions with significant awards, scheduled music sessions in up to 10 venues each day, 10 ceili’s and a plethora of fringe events for all ages and all tastes throughout the week. Launch of new Album - Seven Streams. On November 10th, 2005, Turloughmore Ceilí Band will officially launch their new album. In conjunction with the Ennis Trad Festival, the launch will take place in the Templegate Hotel, Ennis, County Clare at 8pm. Link to information on the 2005 Ennis Trad Festival may be found here.
2005 Seisún na hEireann Winners Representing Abbey Tavern, Quin, members of the Turloughmore Ceilí Band were winners of the 2005 Seisún na hEireann competition. The overall winners taking the prize of €5,000.00 was the local group, Abbey Tavern, Quin and in joint second place was O’Friels Bar Miltown Malbay, Ciaran’s Bar Ennis and the Village Inn Quin. Groups of musicians representing pub sessions from all over Ireland and Belgium competed for the coveted title of best traditional Irish music pub session.
