Mary Liddy (Concertina) The Liddy family benefited from a strong musical upbringing. Mary learned tin whistle and
fiddle from her father Dan, and from the age of 14 taught herself to play the concertina. She joined the Cratloe Céilí Band,
affiliated with the local branch of Comhaltas, and alongside brother Denis, played with them at various fleadhanna cheoil
from 1976 onwards. Mary has played with the Shannonside Céilí Band since it started in 1985. Mary is a dedicated
concertina player who has lent much of her time and energy to the young people of County Clare on their musical
journeys. She is an extremely active member of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann both at organisational and practical levels,
namely teaching traditional music. A teacher of Maths and Irish in St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla, Mary's music
students have benefited from her commitment to teaching and have been awarded many titles over the years, culminating
in the All-Ireland Senior Grúpa Cheoil title in 2005, in which she also participated.
