History of Turloughmore Céilí Band

Turloughmore is the largest Turloch in the Burren near Ballyvaughan, County Clare.

Turloughmore Céilí Band was formed by a number of friends in 1998 including Pat Costello, David Sanders, Bríd
O'Gorman and Denis Liddy.  Original band members were; Mick Flanagan drums, Paul O'Driscoll double bass,
Órfhlaith Ní Bhriain piano, Pat Costello banjo, David Sanders, Denis and Bernie Liddy on fiddles, Bríd O'Gorman
and Jennifer Lenihan flutes, Seán Vaughan button accordion.

By 2000 the band line up had changed significantly, and now incorporated John Blake piano, Pat Costello drums,
Mary Liddy concertina, Brian O'Dea button accordion, Bríd O'Gorman and Jennifer Lenihan flutes, Alan Byrne
banjo, David Sanders, Denis Liddy and Caitríona Rouine on fiddles.

In 2001 we recorded the “Bee's Wing.” Alan was replaced by Karol Lynch and 16 year old David O'Brien debuted
in  place of Jennifer. 2002 saw us win our first Fleadh na Mumhan Title in Miltown, Co. Kerry. Turloughmore then
sensationally tied 2nd in the All-Ireland with Naomh Padraig, Meath and Inisfree, Sligo, behind the Ennis Céilí Band.
Siobhán O'Donoghue joined the band on banjo.
Joan Hanrahan replaced Caitríona on fiddle in 2003 and the following year we changed our sound by introducing
Brian Collins on the Uilleann Pipes.

In 2005 the band participated in Seisiún na hÉireann in Quin and we were thrilled to be given the title of “Best Trad
Session” in Ireland.

Our second CD "Seven Streams" was launched at the Ennis Trad Festival on 10th November 2005.

In May 2006, Turloughmore were delighted to be invited to take part in a retrospective concert on the events of
1916 on the occasion of its 90th Anniversary. We were delighted with the opportunity to perform with the
legendary Cork singer Sean O'Sé and have been honoured to build up a close friendship and mutual love of music
with such a great man.

On 20th August 2006, Turloughmore Ceilí Band were awarded the title of World Fleadh Ceilí Band Champions,
winning the Paddy McElligott Ceilí Band Memorial Cup.

The Turloughmore have toured extensively in recent years, touring USA, Finland, Australia and England. We have
played for ceilís, concerts, house dances and conducted tutorials and masterclasses around the world.

Now featuring Carmel O'Dea on fiddle, our new CD "The Green Road" re-establishes our musical collaboration
with Sean O'Sé. An exciting mix of dance tunes, great traditional songs and innovative musical arrangements, The
Green Road gives the band the opportunity to reflect their musicality in a fresh new way.
